With all the changes this year it is easy to miss a few things. Recently, it was announced that Massachusetts is transitioning to the 2018 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Any application submitted after November 3rd, 2020 will need to meet the 2018 Energy Code. This is an update to the 2015 IECC. To access the code online, please visit https://codes.iccsafe.org/content/iecc2018. Notable changes include:
- Lighting must meet a minimum of 90% high efficiency. That means 90% of the light bulbs need to be LED or similar.
- ERV/HRVs need to be 1.2 cfm/watt.
- All Hot Water Piping needs insulation, regardless of whether it is in a conditioned space or not.
- Electric portable spas need to be controlled by the requirements of APSP-14.
